●Permanent Exhibits

The permanent exhibition on the first floor has more than 1,500 selected items on display. Taken from our extensive collection, these items were chosen as iconic representations of the culture and natural environment of Okinawa. We also welcome you to venture outside and visit our Campus Biotope Exhibition Garden, which can serve as an ideal venue for the study of nature.

■The Fujukan building

The Fujukan building was the last project of Nobuyoshi Kinjo (1934-1984), one of the Okinawa’s foremost architects whose other renowned projects include Naha Civic Hall and the Okinawa Grand Castle Hotel. The Fujukan building incorporates unique Ryukyuan architectural styles: the use of smooth curves for its brick exterior wall, commonly seen in stone buildings such as Okinawan castle ruins and tombs, and the use of himpun, a partition wall that commonly stands at the entrance of Okinawan houses to shield residents from prying eyes.
